Wilfred Thesiger in Africa: A Centenary Exhibition

Jun 4-Jun 5 2011. Marking the centenary of his birth in Addis Ababa, and exploring his relationship with the continent of his birth and his place of residence in later years. Sir Wilfred was perhaps the greatest traveller of the 20th century and one of its greatest explorers. He took more than 17,000 photographs in Africa, and his entire collection was given to the museum. The 61 pictures in this exhibition trace his development as a photographer, and in particular as a portraitist. Museum open Tue-Sun 10-4.30pm, Mon 12-4.30pm.
